If I’ve queued this correctly, this post should be coming to you just a couple of days after my wedding. As I’m currently writing this, it is a fast approaching date. I’m excited and looking forward to what this will bring to my life.
I’m grateful to have someone in my world who supports me with such expansive generosity and patience for my erratic mind. He is the one who brought up the idea of raising rabbits and starting a rabbitry, I just ran away with it because it was something that I did with my grandfather and I didn’t want him to change his mind. While some days I’m sure he questions the decision, he still listens patiently as I explain plans for our breeding program, the flaws and strengths of our genetics, and only complains minimally when I ask him to help with the dirty work.
He has also been incredibly supportive of my decision to cut back on my hours at work so that I can focus more on bookbinding and paper making. Slowly I’ve made progress on the business plan and how it fits into the chaos our the rabbits, renaissance festival, work, and our general lives. Despite his adversity to social interactions, he is even prepared to help me start working market events once my festival season is over.
Recently I opened up an Etsy store, paperandrabbits.etsy.com, to sell some of the books that I’ve made. Starting June 1st, I’ll be running my first promotion for 10% off with the code CONGRATS23, in celebration of my wedding. Honestly, I will be so grateful to anyone who even goes and looks at my shop. And if you do buy something I assure you my gratitude will be profusely expressed with freebies and thank you notes.
Back to the rabbits though, we have found some set backs with our Silver Foxes. Our buck, Scooby, has not quite performed up to expectations. We are giving him the opportunity to do better…but we’ll be low-key looking for a replacement for him. It’s unfortunate, but may be necessary if we cannot breed around his flaws.
On the other hand, I have built quite the presence of the sable gene in my herd. My color options are quite expansive and I’m very much looking forward to focusing my breeding on meat production now that I’ve secured the color genes I desire. Some people will probably shake their heads at me for picking color over SOP, but I promise I did not pick any of my rabbits for color at the detriment of my herd. I have however made accommodations for good fur and temperament as I use the pelts and enjoy friendly rabbits.
I’m not sure what else to talk about for the moment. I hope you’ve been enjoying my short stories and I promise to do my best to keep them coming regularly.
