It was dark when my eyes opened. It was a struggle to move through the heavy ichor that surrounded me, it weighted each muscle and held me encased. As my awareness grew I realized that I had been cold, but was now warming. As the warmth grew I was able to move, the substance holding me becoming malleable in the heat until I could move almost freely.
I wiggled in my new freedom, stretching until I reached the edge of the world. It was hard, like a wall, and completely surrounded me so that I touched every edge with just a small reach. I began to feel cramped and uncomfortable. My discomfort grew and I realized it was because the heat was still growing in intensity, bringing the ichor of my world to a boiling point that jostled me into a panic as I realized I must escape.
The edge of the world was solid, but in my fit for survival I struggled against it, rallying again and again against the same point with furious headbutts and the slashing of clawed feet. The world bubbled around me as I gathered all of my will and smashed my forehead again against the wall and heard a great cracking sound. A dazzling light shone through the crack, and when I reached my claws through and wrenched, the world began to crumble.
Suddenly the world was anew and much larger and brighter. When I opened my eyes the light was blinding and I cried out, for the first time making a trumpeting sound that brought a halt to all of the noise I had not yet noticed. The light lessened and I tried again to open my eyes. Before me there was a face, long with glistening brassy scales leading from the tip of the nose to jade eyes and further up to ivory horns and a mane of blues and greens.
Mother.
The throaty hum she issued was a laugh and a sigh and comforting. I exalted in her presence and let out another trumpeting, a joyful greeting to the new world. A second creature came before me then, nuzzled by mother as it approached and offered me a gift. When it was placed before me a smell wafted into my nose and I was suddenly ravenous, gorging myself on the charred meat as quickly as I could.
The creature who had brought the food let out a chittering sound I realized to be laughter and when I raised my head from the empty platter they reached out with a white cloth and wiped the remnants of ichor and the juice of the meat off of me. Then they anointed me with scented oils and placed their hand on my forehead. The buzzing noise that was the rest of the world returned in furiously happy thunder.
Thus I was named Okur, daughter of Idohy and Geddorth of the clan of brass dragons, bonded to the creature Mera Bilberry as her mother was to mine.
